Keath,
you could use scp. If you have a lot of clients, it would be much easier to
write a little script to sync all of them up with whatever exclude_list you
want them to have. I wrote a script based on what I needed the exclude list
to be and to work with ssh and security. The environment basically defined
what I had to work with. If you decide to use scp, I can send my script if
you want.
