Hi all,

We have the following problem which is driving us crazy and even the Veritas SE
has does not know why it doesn't work as expected.

Here is what we have.

One Windows 2000 Master Server (FP3)
One Windows 2000 Media Server (FP3)
One HP-UX Media Server (FP3)

The windows servers have a single NIC in a private gigabit network. The HP-UX
systems have (2) NICs one 10/100 and one 1000BT. Since the windows systems
have a single gigabit NIC they are working as expected, all the clients backup
and restore using the specified NIC. However, the UNIX systems are a different
storey. On the Unix media server /etc/hosts file "nprod" is the hostname
associated with the 10/100 interface and "backupux" is the one associated with
the gigabit NIC. The client has "ldev" associated with the 10/100
and "clntnb1" as the one associated with the gigabit.

On the unix media server's bp.conf we went ahead and added:

REQUIRED_INTERFACE = backupux

The all netbackup services were restarted.

The clients bp.conf file looks like this:

SERVER = winmaster
SERVER = winmedia
SERVER = nprod
CLIENT_NAME = ldev
REQUIRED_INTERFACE = clntnb1

The problem we are having is that when we attempt to backup the unix client to
the unix media server, the connection always times out. It cannot connect to
the client. We have verified that the policie's client list has clntnb1 for
the client we want to backup.

I was under the impression that if you use the REQUIRED_INTERFACE = clntnb1
directive you don't have to modify your client's bp.conf as follows:

SERVER = winmaster
SERVER = winmedia
SERVER = nprod
SERVER = backupux
CLIENT_NAME = ldev
CLIENT_NAME = clntnb1

I know that if two CLIENT_NAME directives are used, only the one specified in
the policy is used.

Veritas says that the way I have configured it should work, but that they don't
know why it doesn't. The only thing I have not done is to add the
REQUIRE_INTERFACE = backupux directive to the vm.conf . Do any changes have
to be made to the vm.conf file when using multiple NICs? Does anyone know
what my client's bp.conf and my unix media server's vm.conf and bp.conf should
look like?

Any help is greatly appreciated, it has been two days since we first
encountered the problem and we are stumped.

Thank you all!

-Adam
