We've seen Socket nnnnnn failed corrected by killing the Master Servers Java
processes... as the Java console sucks up sockets and memory on the master...

I have seen this problem resolved by increasing the pagefile size. The
buffer you're filling is not the tape buffer but rather the OS/application
buffer setting. For Solaris, there is a technote that reiterates the need
for the shared memory settings for Oracle.

I don't have any MS Oracle clients and have never seen the "no buffer
space" problem on Solaris Oracle clients. Did the Veritas tech support
mention anything about OTM or VSP settings? The default settings for
OTM are very strict and I had to tweak OTM cache control and
backup behavior to eliminate backup failures due to insufficient
disk space for the OTM cache. Since upgrading to FP5 which uses VSP,
the MS windows backup failures have been significantly reduced.
