Well, I've said it before but I do think Veritas is doing a fairly decent
job on Linux support.

Redhat releases new versions at a 3x or 4x rate compared to large vendor
unix versions. I can see that keeping up is difficult. I have to wonder
what Redhat's frequent release schedule is all about.

<soapbox>
I think their reasoning for a frequent release program is two-fold, one is a
"Don't forget we're here" program. ie: Generating press to keep Linux in
the trade rags.

The other reason, I think, is the frantic pace of feature addition to try to
be all things to all people, ie: become Windows. The release of included
new features is necessary because the highly customizable nature of Linux
makes shrink-wrap third party tools and features difficult; the base onto
which they would install is too highly variable to ensure function. One
reason, IMHO, that MS Windows continues to win the household wars. The
result is that RH has to bless every single configuration which means they
have to include it in their releases.

Well, according to http://www.redhat.com/apps/support/errata/
Red Hat Linux 9 (Shrike) has end of life date set to April 30, 2004.
Is Veritas aware of that? Or v5.0 release date is earlier than that?
What's the purpose of supporting dead products? I also haven't seen
anything stating Veritas support for Red Hat Enterprise products.

Thank you,
