I have one that is stumping me and was wondering if anyone else has seen
this, or if I am just missing something really obvious. I ask a lot of
questions in this post. Let me say ahead of time, I appreciate all
responses and your patience.

We have a couple of tape libraries. Lately, when we look at our available
media reports in the morning, we see a lot (more than 100) tapes that are
reporting as FULL. But, vault, which we run daily and tell to eject
original backups (we are not doing dupes right now) is not ejecting these
tapes.

Furthermore, when I run a media contents report, where NetBackup actually
loads the tape and looks at the header info, I get information about the
image. But when I run the images on media report, either through the GUI or
command line via bpimmedia -l -mediaid ###### I get a no entity was found,
regardless of whether or not the image has expired. But if I cd to
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/hostname I can see the header and file list
files for this image.

So my questions are:

Why is vault not ejecting these tapes?

Why does the Images on Media report not know about these images? (I'll
answer my own question: Because the vmquery -m ###### reports volume does
not exist in database)

Why are the tapes just reporting a status of full and not being vaulted?
(Is this again because Vault will only eject a tape if it is in the
database?)

If they aren't being vaulted and are staying in the library and are full,
they are basically just taking up space right and are worthless? (except I
do believe I could get restores off of them)

Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?

Since Veritas doesn't have info for these images in its database how can I
manually load these tapes and have Veritas inventory them?

If I do that, will vault then pick them up on its next run, as long as the
last backup was within the last week?

Thanks,

Taylor
