Hello Daryl

We use backupexec and not netbackup for exchange, so I have not seen =
these error messages per say, but I can give you several questions to =
look at.=20

My first thoughts are all set up issues, but you say that the exchange =
backups had been working. Did something change with exchange, windows, =
netbackup etc.=20

First, in general if you have any problems with exchange look in the =
event logs on exchange server. Mostly the ese messages in the app event =
log to get a little better error messages. Second on the backup server. =

Next have you created the netbackup trace log directorys on the exchange =
server to get a little more in detailed netbackup error messages

=20
The mailbox backups use the mapi interface just like a mail client and =
therefore do not test the backup api. =20

Let use know what you find

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Exchange 2K Information Store Backup Issues

  Greetings All:

  =20

We've recently been experiencing some very strange errors when trying =
to (manual or scheduled) backup or MS Exchange 2000 server. =
(Previously, we had no issues running a database level backup).

  =20

Whenever we try to initiate a full Information Store (Database) level =
backup of our Exchange Server we see the following bpbrm errors:

  =20

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: ERR - failure reading file: Microsoft Information =
Store:\First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (NSTEXCHANGE1) (BEDS =
0xFFFFFEA9: 0xa000fea9 (2684419753)

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: )

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: ERR - failure reading file: Microsoft Information =
Store:\First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (NSTEXCHANGE1) (BEDS =
0xFFFFFEA9: 0xa000fea9 (2684419753)

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: )

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: ERR - failure reading file: Microsoft Information =
Store:\First Storage Group\Log files (BEDS 0xFFFFFEA9: 0xa000fea9 =
(2684419753)

  9/25/2003 2:43:18 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=3D2128) from client =
nstexchange1: )

  =20

Strangely enough, we are able to successfully perform Mailbox level =
backups of the same server!

  =20

We are running NBU v4.5 FP4 on both the Master/Media (Same Server) and =
the Exchange Client as well. We are running NBU on WIN2K server running =
SP4.=20

  =20

If anyone has seen similar issues or has any suggestions with how to =
fix this problem, your input would be greatly appreciated.

  =20

  Thanks in advance,

  =20
