Hi David,

I'd first like to tell you that I don't find using HTML in 
this mailing list a good practice, and in general in the 
UNIX world, because it makes the text barely readable with 
all the codes and increases its size while reducing briefness. 
I also received you e-mails in my personal box, and first 
deleted them without being able to read them thinking they 
were blank. 
I believe (this is my opinion, though) that standard text is
the quickest, most efficient way to write messages, because
it doesn't need CPU and time consuming web browsers and will
reach the full audience no matter what mailer they use,
even on the legendary DEC PDP-11/70 at Bell Labs :-) ...


        With Veritas, you need to update the volume database
to reflect the changes after you change the tapes in your
library. It's OK to physically make the changes in your robot
but after you need to do the following to update the Veritas
tape database:

1- Type 'bpadm' at the UNIX prompt.
2- When at the main menu, press 'e' for Volume Management, 's'
   for Special Action, and 'v' for Inventory a robot.
3- Type the number corresponding to your library, and press
   ENTER.
4- You will see a list with slot numbers on the left, the
   next 2 columns showing what is physically in the robot,
   the 2 following columns showing what is in the Veritas
   inventory. And to the right, you will see a 'Yes' written
   to each slot where the inventory differs from the reality.
   So you should still see your 10 old tapes under 'Volume
   Configuration' but the new ones under 'Robot Contents'.
5- Press any key, and when you see the Special Action menu,
   press 'r' to Update Volume Configuration.
6- Again select the number corresponding to your robot, press
   ENTER.
7- From the next menu, press 'u' to update the volume con-
   figuration. You will see all the changes that Veritas
   needs to do. Basically it will move your old tapes from
   the slots they were in to "Standalone residence" which
   means in storage outside the robot, and add new volume IDs
   in the database for your new tapes and state in which slot
   they are.
8- Press any key, and confirm 'y' to update the volume
   configuration.
9- Press 'q' to go back to Special Actions menu, and type
   'v' again to make sure Veritas made all the changes
   and there are no more 'yes' in the mismatches column.
10- If there are any mismatches, you need to update the
    volume configuration again with 'r'. Otherwise you
    may quit Veritas to the UNIX prompt.
    
Finally, the 'available_media' command will still show your
10 old tapes, but not in the robotic device, and will
show your 10 new tapes as available in their appropriate
slot in the robot. They should be available for the same
volume pool and Veritas will use them for the next backups.
