If you do not have a barcode reader, then you'll have to manually add
the new media. NBU will have no way of knowing what has been replaced
until is actually mounts the tape and the header is read (restores). In
the case of a backup, if you DO NOT manually add them, then NBU will
think it is mounting A00001, which may have been previously used for a
backup and thus already labeled. The new tape which hasn't been labeled
won't be labeled and the backup will proceed on to this tape, all the
while being recorded in the imageDB as having been written to media
A00001.
So...to make a long story short. First time you inventory a non-barcode
reading library, NBU will do the addition and update the volDB but
subsequent inventories may not be accurate.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] robot inventory without barcode reader
Hello all,
I have NB 4.5 MP5 installed with a ADIC Faststor library WITHOUT barcode
reader. How do i inventory the library with new tapes. The library has 7
slots. When i fill them for the first time and i run an invenontory they
get
labled like A00001 and A00002 and so on. Then when i remove the 7 tapes
and
put 7 new tapes in i need to inventory the robot. When i do this i get
the
message that the volume database is up to date. I think i have to give a
command that will load all the tapes 1 by one to update the library but
i
don't know how?
Any solutions?
Thanks
