AIT-3 are 8mm tapes and not compatible with anything but AIT libraries.

AIT-4 or SAIT are suppose to be 1/2" (not sure if they're available yet)
I heard(the drives) they are a little larger than DLT drives so they may
or maynot work with StorageTek.

I don't know anything about the AIT-3 drives, but I don't think they can
be
used in a L700 library.

And I think that people that use 9940B wouldn't trade them for any other

drive. They are rock solid and stable. Haven't had a restore error on
them
(or the 9940A) and we have used them since they came to the market.

But they cost more then a LTO2 drives. At least "up front". In the long
run
the 9940B will save you money over the LTO2 drives.
And if you have large tapepools I know of installations that even ended
up
paying less for a 9940B solution compared to LTO2 based only on the
initial
investment.

And if you are planning to had your tapedrives running 24 hours a day
LTO2
(and all other drives except 9840 and 3590) will take that kind of load
in
the long run.

Another great thing about the 9940B's (and also 9840B's) are that you
can
get them in native FC versions. No SCSI to FC bridge.
