I found just today that I was having this exact problem because I had a
nuhg nfs mounted file system
on two of my solaris boxes. Try logging in a root and cd / then do ls -l
-- if it hangs
then umount -f /<filesys>

What happens is that bpbkar is trying to get a list of all the files and
sizes to back up
and it hangs when it reaches the hung nfs mounted file system. After I
umounted it
the backups started running. It was a pain to kill all the hung processes
though

This worked for me

Windows 2000 SP4, NBU 4.5 MP5 master/media servers:

We've got a HPUX 11 client that's been failing with status 41 for the last
week or so. The client did originally work for several months. I know
just
enough to be dangerous with Unix, and our good Unix guys are out for the
week. Using 'ps' shows that there are 9 instances of bpbkar32 running.
Typing 'kill 28514' doesn't kill the first entry I see:

# ps -ef | grep "bp"

Any advice?
