Hi,

We are using Veritas Netbackup 3.4.1, backing up to a 4mm DAT drive,
stand alone unit.

We have reached a stage where all the media in our volume pool is full.

We have 4 scratch media we are trying to introduce to a volume pool that
we have previously created.

There is a possibility that these 4mm DAT have at some point been
labeled by Veritas Netbackup at some point but we are unsure what the
media ID is.

I have tried to run bplabel to label these tapes. Given that they don't
appear in the media catalogue I assume that we can label these as
necessary.

However when I run bplabel it just hangs and nothing gets written to
tape.

Is there a way of determining what the media ID of a tape is by running
a command?

I am hoping to expire the media if there is a label on there that is
stopping the labeling, keeping in mind that it is a stand alone unit and
not a tape library.

Could there be another possibility why bplabel would not run? I have
checked that the media is not write protected.

Cheers,

Nick
