Hey Group
I recently was configuring a backup to disk environment where the
backups were running to a NexSAN Ataboy 15TB array, then vaulted off to
a SDLT library.
When I was configuring the disk backups, a question came to mind.
What do you think about modifying the max. fragment size from the 2gb
default.
It seems to me that making the fragment size to say 500mb or some
smaller numbers would make restores from disk a lot faster since the
netbackup process would not have to read thru the whole 2GB tar file to
find the file that I needed to restore. It would only have to read thru
a 500mb file in my example. The only downside I could see is that the
number of backup files in your storage unit would increase, but I cannot
see that being a issue
Has anyone come across this, any pros or cons of increasing or
decreasing this value.
