Sounds like you've got a busted drive.  I'd offline the library & manually
load tapes & watch the lights to test.

I have solaris 8 and a L1000 with 4 DLT drives attached and running
netbackup 3.2GA
 
Has anyone seen before a drive which thinks tapes are write protected when
they are not.
An op notices a light on the tape drive saying tapes were write protected
when they weren't.
This may explain why im getting a lot of error 52's lately
