Paul thanks for your help, I found that an LP8000-EMC hba card has a light
out and lputil doesn't even see it.

Hmm nothing unusual there; when you do an "ls /dev/sg/c*t*" do you see the
c3 entries? If not, you may need to build them with the sg.build script.

I'm running Solaris 8 and setting up a new media manager. sgscan is giving
the following:
#sgscan
/dev/sg/c0t0l0: Disk (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0): "SEAGATE ST336605LSUN36G"
/dev/sg/c0t1l0: Disk (/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0): "SEAGATE ST336605LSUN36G"
/dev/sg/c0t6l0: Cdrom: "TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1401"
/dev/sg/c2t0l0: Disk (???): "DGC RAID 5"
/dev/sg/c2t0l1: Disk (???): "DGC"
/dev/sg/c2t1l0: Changer: "STK L40"
/dev/sg/c2t1l1: Tape (/dev/rmt/0): "QUANTUM DLT8000"
/dev/sg/c3t0l0: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t0l0, No such device or address
/dev/sg/c3t0l1: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t0l1, No such device or address
/dev/sg/c3t1l0: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t1l0, No such device or address
/dev/sg/c3t1l1: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t1l1, No such device or address
/dev/sg/c3t2l0: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t2l0, No such device or address

/dev/sg/c3t6l1: Error opening /dev/sg/c3t6l1, No such device or address
normally the server would have printed another line indicating the second
tape drive:
/dev/sg/cXtXlX: Tape (/dev/rmt/1): "QUANTUM DLT8000" instead of all the
'Error's
I have 7 other mediamanagers in this SSO environment to compare to but
haven't seen
the problem yet.
my st.conf has the following (veritas related) entries:
tape-config-list=
"QUANTUM DLT8000", "Quantum DLT8000 Tape Drive", "DLT8k-data";
DLT8k-tape = 1,0x38,0,0x1d639,4,0x1a,0x1b,0x41,0x41,3;
# This line adds support for Fibre Channel Tapes
name="st" parent="fp" target=0;
name="st" class="scsi" target=0 lun=0;
name="st" class="scsi" target=0 lun=1;
name="st" class="scsi" target=1 lun=0;
name="st" class="scsi" target=1 lun=1;
name="st" class="scsi" target=2 lun=0;
name="st" class="scsi" target=2 lun=1;
name="st" class="scsi" target=3 lun=0;

name="st" class="scsi" target=5 lun=1;
name="st" class="scsi" target=6 lun=0;
name="st" class="scsi" target=6 lun=1;
So basically if anyone has a hint where I can look would be great.
