I am using barcode (http://ar.linux.it/software/#barcode)
The parameters to produce a usable DLT8000 label are:
barcode -i labels.txt -e 39 -c -t 3x10+.5+.5 -m 37,15 -u in -p 8.5x11in
The file labels.txt contains label text, one label per line.
