As you may have noticed by now the Quantum specifications are in terms =
of
full tape reads and writes as opposed to reading only portions of your =
tapes
as you would in a normal environment.  Additionally, NetBackup tracks
mounts, not reads or writes.  I haven't tested this in any thorough =
fashion
but I wouldn't be surprised if you could mount a tape and never read or
write it.

In short I have not found much use for this information in terms of
configuring NetBackup.  The best advice I can give you is to closely =
watch
the read/write/position failure rates in your environment and base your =
tape
and drive replacement on that empirical data rather than the vendor's =
data
sheets.
