Our environment has multiple NICs on the master/media server and all
clients. Each Nic is on its own subnet.
What I have done in the bp.conf is:
Server=veritas1a (subnet a in dns)
Server=veritas1b (subnet b in dns)
Server=veritas1c (subnet c in dns) etc.
Client=client1a
Client=client1b
Client=client1c (client1a-c is all the same client with multiple NIC?s in
dns)

Then for network traffic balancing it would just depend on which
client/policy nic the client piece is installed to ,client1a or client1b or
client1c, that would decide the subnet used.

If you need to change the subnet, for performance or whatever, simply change
the client/policy to the different client subnet on the master/media.

The problem I ran into with 1 master/media hostname was client starting on 1
subnet then bleeding across to another subnet. (very slow backup times)
But I did not try the REQUIRED_INTERFACE in bp.conf. Since this
configuration has been working great for us I?ve not changed the way it is
being done.
HTH,
Mark Eisenhardt

Mark,

Normally, you would have one hostname for the master/catalog server and used
the REQUIRED_INTERFACE in your bp.conf to direct traffic to the NIC you
want.

Hello, I have been under the impression the Netbackup can perform backup of
data using multiple NICs. I have received instructions to configure this
and they seem uncomplicated.

We have since been told that such a configuration is not supported by
Veritas! Can you tell me if you know if this is true.
Also, is it possible to use multiple NICs in my netbackup backup
environment.

Configuration will be:
Master server with two NICs, both configured in DNS.
ClientA in subnet 1 configured to use NIC1
ClientB in subnet 2 configured to use NIC2

Host file entries will be configured for each client and master server.
bp.conf file on each client will specify server=DNSnic1 OR server=DNSnic2

Regards,  Mark
