One of my environments uses an offsite process based on duplicated images.

My Friday backup uses a specially named schedule. There's a post-schedule
job (bpend_notify.<class>.<sched>) that is the duplication process. I
generate a list of images from bpimagelist using a set of predetermined
criteria (full backups from a specific list of clients in the past 7 days).
I then feed this list into bpduplicate with the "-bidfile" option and use
the "-dp" option to duplicate to a new poolname called "offsite".

When the duplication is done, I change the expiration dates to my offsite
interval using bpexpdate. Finally, I eject all tapes in the "offsite" pool
, run a "checkout" script for tracking & they're sent out the door. I have
a return process using a "checkin" script that reverses some of these values
to onsite settings.

I track these offsite tapes using the Volume database itself. The vmchange
command lets you manipulate fields for volume group, offsite send & receive
dates, & offsite location. vmquery returns these values for reporting
purposes.

My class at the Veritas Vision conference will cover this some if you're
going to be there.

Hello:

I am in the process of setting up a media management procedure for one of my
NBU customers. The customer is running NBU 4.5 MP3 with an ADIC Scalar 100
with a single drive.

They want to setup separate media pools and are backing up a number of WIN2K
clients, Exchange, SQL, & a Linux box. and want to manually offsite certain
media.

Does anyone have a recommendation regarding setting up a manual offsite
procedure using NBU reports & scripts and best practices for setting up
media pools to support this type of media management?

Any input would be welcome.

regards,
