I run clustered SQL 2000, and both nodes are also media servers using SSO
and connecting to disk and tape via a SAN. I back up my databases to disk,
and then those files are backed up to disk. Without clustering NBU (which
we found to be **very** problematic with this configuration, probably mainly
because Veritas ProServ stinks), there are a couple of main options for my
configuration:

1. Set up a job on node A to back up the backup files on node A, and do the
same for node B. One of these jobs will fail every time. The goal here is
to prevent IP backups, which can be much slower than SAN backups.

2. This is how we do it: Set up a job on node A to back up the backup
files using the SQL virtual server name as the client. Whichever node is
controlling the disks will respond to the the virtual name, and backups will
run. The caveat is that if you're in a failover state, you're going to be
doing IP backups. However, my nodes are both on gigabit, so this doesn't
slow me down too much if at all. It's simpler, and you don't have a bunch
of failed jobs.

Matt

Hi all Windows gurus....

Is there any one that have any good doc`s or pointers to get Netbackup 4.5
MP2 to backup a virtual Ms-SQL server instance in a
windows 2000 cluster enviorment, with 2 physical nodes?

Regards Hampus.
