Its on my list of things to do...unfortunately I spending more time
troubleshooting than I am documenting. :-(

I've documented this before...may be in the meantime this will help you.

First you must create

1. VAULT ROBOT - The stuff relating to WHERE your NBU Media Resides.

2. VAULT - Contains WHERE the media will be VAULTED, what OFFSITE volgroup
you will use and the ROBOTIC GROUP for the OFFSITE MEDIA. For instance at one
of my client sites, they are backing up to 9840 drives but vaulting to 9940
drives. Because of the density types (HCART and HCART2), the robotic volume
groups differ for those tapes that reside in the library. HCART=00_000_ACS and
HCART2=01_000_ACS. I don't agree with it, but VAULT needs to know the Robotic
Group it is pulling from, I guess for an additional layer of validation.
Lastly it contains the beginning slot number, if used, at the offsite vendor
location.

3. Next is VERY similar to the dup_param file, but now they call it the
PROFILE for the VAULT your just created. This will dictate how VERITAS Vault
will "run". There will be three sections, Duplication, Catalog Backup and
Eject. However, you will notice that when you start creating the PROFILE you
have two BOOKEND steps called CHOOSE BACKUPS and REPORTS. Wedged between those
two are your three sections.

Choosing Backups would be in my terminology, defining the selection criteria
for duplication. What clients (or all), Media server (or all), Backup Policies
(or all), and Schedules (or all). Starting in the upper left of the screen of
CHOOSE BACKUPS, defines the starting point. If you define between x DAYS and x
HOURS, this is exactly like the bpduplicate cli -hoursago. If you define the
second line starting with 'and', then you will change your relative start time
and date from the current point in time VAULT is running.

Example.

7 days 0 hours ago
AND 0 days 12 hours ago

if this runs at 9:00 AM on 1/29/2003, the vault will start its selection
criteria from 1/28/2003 at 9:00PM searching 7 days prior. I don't necessarily
like that but hey that's the way it works. Most of my customers simply set
BETWEEN x DAYS and x HOURS ago and do not set AND x DAYS x HOURS ago.

Moving across the if you Enable the Advance criteria you are able to be more
granular in your selection by touching the client, media servers, backup
policies and schedules.

KEEP IN MIND THAT IF YOU ARE USING ANY OF THE DB AGENTS FOR BACKUP THAT THOSE
BACKUP TYPES ARE <USER BACKUP> OR <UBAK> FROM THE COMMAND LINE. THEREFORE YOU
WILL NEED TO CREATE ANOTHER PROFILE TO GET BOTH <FULL> BACKUPS AND <USER
BACKUPS>...Just and FYI.

We have found some 'problems' with the source volume group selection...so we
have changed it to <all volume groups>, my client is still waiting for an
answer I believe from VERITAS on this one.

All the rest is pretty self explanatory.

TAB 2 (1. Duplication) - This is pretty self-explanatory, however there is a
useability issue with the GUI when you are in Advanced Configuration. When you
are creating multiple destination storage units for your duplication, there is
a little check box regarding the Copy Number.

I think it says Primary: and then below that column is Copy 1:, etc. Some of
my customers were confused by this and clicked this box thinking that Copy 1
meant their original copy. This is understandable since the Original copy of
the backup data is COPY1, so beware Copy 1: under Primary in the Advanced
Configuration of this tab IS NOT referring to the original copy, but the first
copy of the series of duplicates you are creating. Personally I think it
should start with

Copy 2:
Copy 3:
etc.

But that's just me.

Tab 3 (2. Catalog Backup) - Again...pretty self explanatory.

Tab 4 (3. Eject) - The only difference here is you aren't able to FREEZE media
in 4.5 as you were in previous versions. Other than that, this is pretty
standard stuff.

Tab 5 (Reports) - Very similar to the dup_param file in that you can define
what reports you want to generate where they go once they are generated, etc.

Finally, you need to create a new Backup Policy of type Vault. The file list
must contain the following

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vltrun <VAULTROBOTNUM>/<VAULTNAME>/<PROFILENAME>
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vlteject -eject -vault <VAULTNAME>

so it would look something like this

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vltrun 0/VAULT_IM/IM_VAULT_PROF
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/vlteject -eject -vault VAULT_IM

The schedule types would be Automatic Vault.

Its as easy as that (LOL!)

Okay Kate, you probably didn't need this at all, but I felt compelled to dump
all of this out just in case someone out there needed it.

Any way...I am in the process of documenting the cli but not there yet. I
found the GUI less than desirable when I first started, but have grown to
understand it...I still love and prefer the cli.

David
