There is one pretty NDMP solution from BakBone and another from
Workstation Solutions.  Both have had DDS and DAR for quite some time.
I know NetApp has tested BakBone in their lab and found it to be
everything it is advertised as.

That is correct.  You would need a Windows master to push client
software to Windows machines, a regular Windoze machine won't do it.
