Are all media servers under the same master server?
Are the clients backed up over the network?
Is the database backed up using RMAN?

Depending on your configuration,
I think you can do an alternate client restore if all the media servers=20
are controlled by the same master server.
You should not need to move any tapes. If your configuration uses=20
directly attached tapes and SAN media
it is probably a totally different situation.

I have been successful by running a restore on the alternate client where=20
the file system on the alternate client
is the same structure as on the original client. This is required for=20
RMAN. The master server was able to get the
data from the media server it was originally backed up to and pass it over =

the network to the new client.

Hope this helps

        Subject: [Veritas-bu] Alternate client restores

My oracle DBA needs to do a restore from one of our media servers to=20
another client that uses a different media server. Would I need to move=20
the tape that she needs or is there another way of doing this?
=20
I just want to see if setting this command in the bp.conf would work=20
rather than having to use bpmedia to move the tape from media server1 to=20
media server2.
=20
FORCE=5FRESTORE=5FMEDIA=5FSERVER =3D server1 server2
=20
Or use=20
=20
bpmedia -ev 002761 -movedb -newserver server2 -oldserver server1
=20
The image is spanned across 70 tapes, so I don't think I would want to run =

bpmedia 70 times to do this. Just wondering if there is any easier way to =

do this.
=20
Thanks!
