Good Day,

Environment: NBU BussinesServer on Win2K Server ver. 3.4.1GA (Compaq DL580
hardware).  This is master and media server with a direct attached single
Compaq SDLT drive.  Attempting to add a second NIC to a backup ethernet 
segment.

We have a new NetApp filer I will need to backup.  To accomplish this, I
would like to install a Gig-E NIC in the server and filer to connect to a
backup ethernet segment.  After installing the card in the server, and
configuring it for the new network segment, NBU stopped working.  i.e.  
when support staff examined the activity log the next day, there was no
entry whatsoever.  The logs (through the report GUI) did not have any
useful info, neither did the few logs I looked through (bpdbm, bptm).  I
did not modify any backup configuration - it was still backing up the
local file system.  The only change is the addition of the NIC.  An error
was displayed indicating a problem connection to the socket when
attempting a manual launch of the class.  After disabling the new NIC, I
was able to manually launch the backup OK.

I see that setting up a server to be multi-homed is not trivial or
straight-forward.  I have searched the archives and am currently looking
at the SAG for ideas on what I need to do to set this up correctly.  Any
tips, tricks, advice, or pointers to info would be most welcome.

I am one of the NBU admins on this list who wears many hats.  Sorry if any
of you think I should spend a few more days reading and testing to figure
this out, but I would rather ask for your advise to speed this process up
a little.  I have a number of critical changes and new hardware I need to
get up to speed on by next week and I'm a little under the gun.
