The script I wrote doesn't use the oracle agent. Its based from some oracle
backup scripts that were created for our UNIX/Solaris environment and ported
to NT/Win2k. We use a third-party package called MKS-ToolKit to execute the
scripts. It gave us more control and ability to trap error messages than
the standard DOS environment.
We've done restores of hot backups on on the UNIX side, and there hasn't
been any problems. I can give some general guidelines, but can't go into
any great detail since the scripts are considered company property.

We ended up creating our own backup scripts for oracle. The RMAN utility
doesn't necessary work correctly all the time. It also kept us from buying
the Oracle agent for NB.
