[Veritas-bu] Remote Admin Console 4.5
2002-09-25 14:05:05
Jeff,
Thanks for the reply, but I have to disagree with you. By default the remote
admin console installs using the user account of the person who installs it on
the remote windows box (i.e. the administrator or who ever was logged in for
the install). This has been the case since the inception of this product and
there is a common work around noted for previous versions of this product but
doesn't work the same with 4.5. What I was looking for was the work around to
change the user authentication for 4.5. Normally there would be a properties
file to edit in the install directory (C:\program files\veritas\netbackup\) but
that file has been either removed in this version or called by a different name.
Also the non-root user authentication and management you're talking about is
only for local administration on the master server itself and doesn't address
use of the remote admin console.
Thanks again for your help and I'll let you know how we resolve the problem.
Thanks,
Craig

By default, a remote admin client will authenticate as root. You may be
running the remote backup/restore client, this is one of the differences
between 3.4 and 4.5.
On the master server there is a host properties section with the master
listed. Modify the "servers" tab of the properties and add the client
you are trying to remote admin from. This will authenticate the client
to the master as root. Make sure the master can resolve the hostname of
the client (I had to put an entry in /etc/hosts for my reserved dhcp
client).
You can also look into non-root user authentication and management in
the Admin Guide, pg 378 of the Unix Admin Guide. Don't know about the
Windows guide.
