[Veritas-bu] database backup
2002-09-24 21:01:10
Hello Steve
You said that this was a home brew data base system.
Can you tell us a little more.
Which O/S are you using? Hardware? and Filesystem? A raw filesystem?
Can you back this up with another backup program and restore it correctly? For
example tar, ntbackup.
Can you copy the files to another filesystem and then to your restore location?
A wild guess is this might be a sparse file problem.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] database backup
Hello list!
I'm backing up a binary database. The database is 14gigs in size and is
offline during the backup. The backup reports a status of 0 and I see
no errors in the logs. However when I restore the database (which also
reports success) the database is only 1.3 gigs in size. So, somewhere
out there in the land of 1's and 0's I've lost 13 gigs... or so it
seems. Has anyone experienced this? The DBA says that the database is
missing data as one would assume. I've opened a case with veritas and
sent them the logs and they also confirm that as far as they can tell,
nothing is going wrong with the backup or restore. Short of Jenny Craig
for databases... what in the world could be going on?
Suggestions please...
Steve Curry
