[Veritas-bu] Media Server gone!!

Was the media server backing up itself?

If you add FORCE_MEDIA_SERVER_RESTORE (its something like that anyway) to
your Master Config file, then you will be able to mount the tape that the
exploded media server wrote and begin to restore the data using the Master
Server.

You will of course have to have an OS and NBU client installed on the
recovered media server...

BTW:  This is a good example of why I love BMR from Veritas.  You can take a
machine that is completely stripped of an OS and recover it to the last
backup using NBU and TIR.  'Tis Very sweet.

If your media server is just a media server, your best bet is to do a fresh
install of the OS and reinstall NB from CDROM. We've done this and the
process can go very quickly.

Hopefully you have current copies of your catalag for such a situation.

I hope someone could confirm my actions....

Running 3.4 Net backup on 2 x NT4 Servers - one master and one media.

Our Media Server exploded!! We lost a physical Compaq Array that our Net
backup Software was installed on. At the moment the System is going through
a Chkdsk on its existing arrays. I have no idea at this time whether all the
data is going to be intact of even functioning.

To this end, my last resort would be to restore the Media Server from a Full
Backup. Because my Master Server is online could I activate the Restore from
there, and point it to my Media Server?

Any help is gratefully appreciated
