JLaurie,

I would not recommend using non-target NetWare backups for any reason. It =
uses IPX and is more than 4 times slower than using the target method, =
which uses IP.

The status 71 errors occur, but almost always are made up automatically if =
you have the tries set to more than one. When using the target method, to =
get rid of the Status 71 errors, update the clients (and NBU servers, of =
course) to the latest patch, 3.4.1_3a.

We also used to use Arcserve for NetWare, but wanted to get to Veritas NBU =
as fast as possible. Arcserve is a dog compared to NBU if your servers =
are of any size at all.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] NetWare & Error 71

Just recently I've begun testing non-target NetWare backups. Last =
Sunday,=20
I got successful full backups of a NetWare server (both NetWare File=20
System & Novell Directory). This weekend, however, the backup failed =
with=20
an error Status Code: 71. Checking the error logs I also noticed that I=20
got a "unable to connect to service, scheduled access not specified"=20
message. I checked the Troubleshooting Guide and found that the additional=
=20
error could be expected when using the target'd backup. As noted above =
I'm=20
doing non-target'd backups and I ensured that, indeed, the class type =
was=20
"NetWare" and the files list contained only a slash (/).
Does anyone have experience with NetWare backups? Is there anything I'm=20
missing? I'm starting to look bad in the eyes of the NetWare group...I=20
promised that I could improve backup performance and increase reliability=
=20
vs ArcServe.

Thanks and regards,
