OK, I have similar problems; albiet mine are self-inflicted. We recently
cutover to a new STK L700
library with 10 LTO drives from a pair of libraries (an ATL 7/100 and another
L700) with 4 DLT7000 and 6
DLT8000 drives respectively. We need to provide DLT recovery capabilities for
a few months using the
DLT8K drives in the old L700 - the ATL is going away forever in the very near
future. Due to port
limitations on the five existing media servers, only 3 of them can be attached
to the DLT-based library
(direct attach SCSI) - all five are attached via Fibre to the new LTO drives.
I'd like to test my
understanding of the steps necessary to accomplish my goal:
- it seems that the FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER directive will take care of the
problem of the two media
servers that can no longer talk directly to the DLT drives. I can have one or
more of the other three
media servers perform the recovery tasks for these two.
- I'll need to move (physically and logically) all the necessary media from the
obsolete ATL storage unit
into the DLT-based L700.
- What about restores from the new LTO-based L700 stu? I imagine these will be
affected by the
FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER directive...
Am I missing anything? Is there a better way to accomplish this?

easiest way would be to use the FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER directive in
bp.conf... that way once the master's stu is back online, you can remove that
entry...
or you could modify the nbu database using bpimage and bpmedia...
for more info on all of those functions, check the nbu sysadm guide, chapter 7,
methods for performing server independent restore...
