I don't believe this is the case.  I'm pretty sure that Veritas
have always supported clients running at a revision level lower
than the Servers.  We certainly had large numbers of 3.1.1
clients running for a significant period of time whilst the
servers were at 3.4.

FWIW the beta 4.5 software was quite happy backing up 3.4
clients.
