We do backup the metabase without any problems per
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/236941.htm. Your error 5 may be an OTM
problem. What are the following OTM settings on that server:

OTM_Cache_Size_Init:
OTM_Cache_Size_Max:
OTM_Quiescent_Wait:
Cached files:
Error Control:

Yes, it is in the System State. But as you mentioned, it is also in
memory... and config changes made to the web server stay in memory and don't
get written to disk until you shut down the web server or tell it to write
it to disk (back it up as you mentioned with scripts or MMC). A restore of
the System State would be missing these changes.

No, OTM would not get it.

Is anyone backing up the IIS metabase before running NetBackup? I've read
that NTBackup includes the metabase in its System State backup, but Veritas
Technotes indicates that because the metabase is in memory, NetBackup can't
back it up (understandably). Would it be included if OTM is enabled?

I've tried running the metaback.vbs script included with IIS 5.0, but I
always get 'Error backing up Metabase to
'C:\winnt\inetsrv\metaback\metabase.MD0' (next version). Error number: 5'. I
can find no information on what this error is. It works fine if I do a
backup through MMC.

(Windows 2000 Advanced Server, SP2, server also running SharePoint Portal
server)

Thanks,
Lee Anne
