I usually
1) copy libobk.so.1 to ORACLE_HOME/lib
2) cd ORACLE_HOME/lib
3) rm libobk.so; ln -s libobk.so.1 libobk.so

No Oracle rebuild or restart required.

"touch NOSHM" - both Netbackup and Oracle are using shared memory.
If you have them both on the same server - it could be not enough shared
memory.
I believe you have to restart Netbackup after you'll make the file.

Other problems I met with Oracle hotbackup:
1) Netbackup log directories should have perm. 777
2) CLIENT_TIMEOUT in bp.conf should be high (few hours)

Good luck,
Dmitri

Hi all, thanks to all for your feedbacks, however I still can't figure
out what went wrong.

My NetBackup is running on Solaris 2.8, using a DLT tape backup machine,
I am using Netbackup Business Server version 4.3.1, Oracle 8.1.7 32-bit
version.

I have performed following:
1) check for inconsistant libobk.so.1 (and other documented symbolic
linkings )
2) backup on Disk (on backkup_level0.rcv: issued 'allocate channel t1
type disk;' ) - Success (!)

Do I have to perform :
make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle LLIBOBK=-lobk
I have read a document states it is not required for oracle 8.1.7 and
above for Solaris 8, is this true ?

I haven't try "touch NOSHM " - what does it do ?

PS: I now have received a different ORA-19511 error message from before
:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
