Can anyone shed any light on the following for a colleague please? Or tell
me what additional info would assist?

With additional comments by me [in square brackets]

TIA,

I have searched the archives thoroughly, and in the absence of anything
there I suspect a security issue, but my lack of NT expertise inhibits my
ability to chase this down further. [That makes two of us :-( ]

Thanks,

Cannot restore to an NT client from a UNIX master/media server
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Setup:
~~~~~~
NBU v3.4
Multiplexed backups
OTM disabled (thats another story)
UNIX master/media server running Solaris 8 [and Unix clients work fine]
NT4 Client at SP6

The backup is across a firewall [which currently _should_ not be blocking
anything between the machines in question; Unix-Unix have not been across
the f/w]

Details of problem:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the first attempt to restore a file to the NT client (actually
2 different clients were tried), from a seemingly successful backup, ie
the backup was reported successful, and the image db files on the master
server look okay. [And I believe restoring NT client files to the Unix
master server works OK]
The restore kicks off successfully. Trussing the bptm process suggests the
tape is being scanned for the requested file. (I won't show this but its
obviously so.. backup ids are present).
Following is the bpbrm log for the entire duration of the restore,
ultimately showing an exit status 0 (successful restore).
*** LOG END ***
The reports logs also show success ..
"successfully restored from backup id apollo_1014256305"
But the file is not restored. I`ve tried alternate path and overwrite. The
bpbrm(-restore) and bptm processes continue. The bptm process is no longer
searching the tape but giving sig errors.
Eventually the network times everything out (expected behaviour) and the
job fails with the "restore failed" exit code 5.
