I'm not sure if I can give you -the- answer, but I think I can point you in the
right direction. I don't have my reference materials here in front of me at the
moment, that's why it might be a bit sketchy. Anyways, the same hardware bits
that signal for hardware cleaning, are also used by Netbackup in what Veritas
refers to as the TapeAlert feature. There was a patch released in mid-November
which, among other things, "fixed" the TapeAlert
feature for Quantum drives. I don't recall if there is a mechanism to turn off
TapeAlert. I seem to think that there wasn't one.

The following messages appeared in my message log and I am curious as to why
it is attempting to clean the drives. I have an STKL700 with 20 drives and
it is set to auto-clean on the hardware side. If Veritas is set to clean
somehow, where is this setting and how can I turn it off?

Any help in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Mike
