Chad,

It is normal when your looking at tape drives that have no tape loaded.
Problems are when they show DOWN. When you run a backup you will see
Yes.

I'm looking at the Device Management screen under the Drive Status
panel, and under the column titled "Ready" it's showing "No", which
seems to indicate a problem. I'm pretty new to Netbackup and was
hoping
someone can give me some pointers on where I should start looking to
get
that fixed (assuming that it is a problem). I'm reading through the
manuals and haven't come up with anything.

So far I've tried downing the drive and the bringing it backup up with
via the drive control commands. I've also tried the reset drive
option.
As a last resort, I tried rebooting the box (which came from my
experience as an nt admin).

I looked through the logs to see if I might find something unusual and
came across the following entries in admin/log.012302:

09:24:37 [3928] <2> get_report:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpimagelist -A -d 01/22/02 09:24:15
-e
01/23/02 23:59:59
09:24:37 [4030] <2> bpimagelist: INITIATING: NetBackup 3.1.1GA Solaris
created: 98041620
09:24:37 [4030] <2> logparams: -A -d 01/22/02 09:24:15 -e 01/23/02
23:59:59
09:24:37 [4030] <2> getsockconnected: host=lejeune service=bpdbm
address=10.1.3.40 protocol=tcp non-reserved port=13721
09:24:37 [4030] <2> getsockconnected: host=lejeune service=bpdbm
address=10.1.3.40 protocol=tcp non-reserved port=13721
09:24:37 [4030] <16> imagelist: unexpected return value from
db_IMAGEreceive: no entity was found 227
09:24:37 [4030] <2> bpimagelist: no entity was found
09:24:37 [4030] <2> bpimagelist: EXIT status = 227

This is all running on a Solaris 2.6 machine with an attached L280
robot
with version 3.1.1 of Netbackup. At this point I'm trying to determine
if the drive needs help or if somehow my Netbackup configuration is
the
problem. If anybody could give me some hints on how to rule out one or
the other I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Chad
