Had this same problem with our datacenter here. The only solution we found
that worked on these large files was the Netbackup extension FLASHBACKUP.
Fixed the problem asap. Im able to backup millions of little files on over
250GB within 2hrs.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Help!! Large # of file restores

I am attempting to restore 21,595 files (11.7G) to an alternate client, it
is taking approximately 4 hours to generate the file list to restore. I am
trying to restore from one directory on one server to an alternate server
and an alternate path. I am running the command: bprestore -R filename -C
fromsrvr -D tosrvr -L progressfile -s date -e date -f listofiles.

When I call veritas their response is: "Yes it will take a while to
generate the list, the fastest way to generate it is through the command
line". I talked to them about indexing the database, per them this is only
for a small number of files that need to be restored repetitiously. I can
not believe this is an acceptable length of time, or an excessively large
number of files, I also find it hard to believe that larger shops would be
willing to wait this long for a large restore.

Any Suggestions?!?
