The best method for tracking media is by using volume groups. It has no
other function other than that of being an adminstrative tool.  You're
method looks pretty good.  However, I would suggest thinking about
duplication of the original images before sending things off site.

On my website you will find scripts that should help you out.  I have
written several and several have been donated by members of this list.  The
one that I wrote which might be helpful is a tape_rotation script used for
moving tapes out of a library that are full have have not be read from or
written to in X days.  When these candidate tapes are identified they are
logically moved out of the library and into another volume group for
tracking.

Can anyone explain how they remove tapes from netbackup to be sent to
offsite storage. Do you use volume groups? The current method I use is:

1. Identify tapes written in the last 24 hour [ bpimagelist -A -media
-hoursago 24]

2. Use vmadm and move the tapes to a new volume group [chosen from
MONDAY,TUESDAY etc]

3. Remove tapes, insert new tapes, perform vmupdate

Is this the correct method?

If this is the case has anyone managed to automate the process of moving
written tapes to volume groups in any scripts?
