[Veritas-bu] bpduplicate taking 14 hours?
2002-01-09 11:25:04
My normal backup takes 3 Mammoth tapes takes about 5 1/2hours to run. In
this case i only duplicated one of the 2 tapes.
I think for next year end i'll run the backup twice. This way it will go
alot faster.

How long did the backup take? Duplicating takes approximately twice as
long.
Tapes are not duplicated, images are. It doesn't just stick a tape in and
do
a copy. There are two reasons for this. It allows duplicating from one
media
type to another (e.g. DLT to 8mm (why I don't know, but you can)) and
since
no two tapes are EXACTLY the same length it insures that if it is the
shorter one that is being written, it won't run out of tape.

I'm wondering if someone has run into this before. I'm trying to duplicate
some year end tapes. I have a library with 2 mammoth tape drives. I'd like
to think that a tape copy would take 2 hours, but this one took 14!
I'm running Solaris 8 with progress databases.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
