Subject: [Veritas-bu] bpbkar hangs
From: maclean AT cs.mcgill DOT ca (Matthew SAMS)

Solaris client running
'NetBackup-Solaris2.6 3.4patchJ0850645'

bpbkar process consumes cpu resources but
doesn't actually write any data. Truss shows
no system calls being made by bpbkar. Eventually
the server terminates the connect and returns
status code 41.

I've modified bp.conf to include 'VERBOSE',
touched /usr/openv/netbackup/bpbkar_path_tr
and created logs/bpbkar. The bpbkar log file
shows the following:

<building mount list>...
11:59:39 [7457] <2> bpbkar SelectFile: INF - cwd = NULL
11:59:39 [7457] <2> bpbkar SelectFile: INF - path = /
11:59:39 [7457] <2> bpbkar SelectFile: INF - Resolved_path = /
11:59:39 [7457] <2> bpbkar resolve_path: INF - Actual mount point \
 of / is /
11:59:39 [7457] <8> bpbkar SelectFile: WRN - Old TIR file \
/usr/openv/netbackup/tir_info//NetBackup_file_info.Internal-Unix \
is missing. Backing up everything in /.
11:59:39 [7457] <4> bpbkar PrintFile: /

and doesn't report anything else. These steps were taken to
determine whether any files had mandatory locking set.

The tir_info file is created by bpbkar and has zero length.
Backups worked until very recently. There have been no changes
to the client bp.conf.

We have checked speed and duplex settings on the switch and
system interfaces. No errors are reported by netstat -i.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

-Matthew
