[Veritas-bu] ejecting multiple volumes to mail slot
2001-12-20 11:25:36
While a lot of people use tldtest to move tapes to the outport, another way is
to use vmchange -res -e. I prefer this method.
Many have already respopnded to this and as you can see, there are already a
large number of scripts and methods out there. I have also written a script
(actually a few that work together) for this. I will post it soon once I add
a few more comments within the script.
Some of the reasons I wrote my own was that I wanted to eject a list of tapes
to more than one robot and allow them to run concurrently without one robot's
full CAP stopping others from continuing their ejects. I also wanted an
e-mail sent to ops when an eject started or completed or when the CAP was
full. Lastly, I wanted to be able to eject specific tapes passed to the
script or to eject a certain number of tapes from a robot without needing to
know what tapes they were. To do this I use a modified version of the
available_media report (which is extremely more efficient) that also adds the
size in KB and the expiration date so tapes may be ejected based on what I
feel is the most logical order.

You can use robtest and move the tapes from their slots to the interactive
ports.
If this is under a unix flavour, you could write a little expect script
that automated it for you.
Im looking into this as an option because our offline vaulting is creating
20 - 25 tapes in a session and our door also only holds 14 tapes.
I'm trying to automate the process for a unix operator that will be
removing the tapes from the tape unit and giving them to the offsite
storage company.
