Yes and lots of it as well. I regret the day that I selected Netbackup above
Legato. Will not make the same mistake again. From version 4.5 that would
have been released in the last quarter to it shifting now to the 1q of 2002
to the worst support ever recieved from a company. It is a total nightmare
Plus mail messages like these that says that you can lose all data but only
in rare cases. Why then mail all customers:
VERITAS has recently discovered a potential data threatening issue with
VERITAS NetBackup and NetBackup DataCenter. This TechAlert is to inform you
of the circumstances and/or conditions under which this problem could occur
and to provide the remedy for it. This alert was generated because product
quality and customer responsiveness are consistent VERITAS Software
hallmarks and any issues that could potentially affect your data are viewed
as extremely serious. It should be noted the following issue is believed to
be rare.
To clarify this alert, please note the following definitions:
NetBackup Database Backup: This term refers to the management and backup of
the NetBackup operational database. This includes the Configuration,
Policies, Schedules, Drive Definitions, Robotic Definition, Catalog , etc.
NetBackup Database Extension Backups: This term refers to backups that
utilize the Database Extension features of NetBackup and includes, but is
not limited to, backups such as: Oracle, Exchange, SQL, DB2, Informix, SAP,
Lotus Notes, NCR Teradata, Sybase, etc.
The purpose of this TechAlert is to identify a critical problem with the
NetBackup Database backup only.
This issue will only occur when performing a NetBackup database restore that
utilizes a multiple-tape method. This problem does NOT occur with bprecover
operations where only one tape is utilized. Most NBU environments are in a
bprecover, single tape environment.
Solution:
For specific details related to this issue and identified workarounds,
please refer to TechNote 238707 at the following link:
<http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/238707.htm>
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/238707.htm.
A permanent resolution to this issue is included in NetBackup 4.5 release
scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2002.
Sincerely,
VERITAS Software Corporation
Just my two cents.
Dirk

Subject: [Veritas-bu] slow performance on NBU
We have been experiencing slow performance on win2k (sp2) and NBU (nbu_34_2
patch) on several sites.
We have worked with support and have eliminated any problem on tape/library.
We see only 2mb/s just to backup null device.
Just wonder if somebody has experienced similar problem.
thanks a lot.
