Ryan,

We did this exact configuration just yesterday. Here is how we did it:

1 Master/Media Server called Buck, with control of 1 robot (TLD 0) and all
10 drives
1 Media Server called Phil, with control of 1 robot (TLD 1) and 8 of 10
drives
1 Media Server called Hank, with the remaining 2 drives from Phil's robot
attached to it.

Because Phil was already configured as the robotic control host for it's
robot it was simply a matter of using tpconfig on Hank. First we added the
robot onto Hank specifying Phil as the robotic control host and Buck as the
volume database host. We then added the 2 drives on Hank, configuring them
as part of the robot controlled by Phil.

Once the above was done we simply launched the device manager on Buck and
added Hank as one of the hosts to monitor. He came up instantly displaying
the 2 drives and Phil as the robotic control host.

We now created a storage unit with Hank as the netbackup host and specified
2 drives. We also have another storage unit with Phil as the netbackup host
specifying 8 drives.
So yes, you will create 2 storage units, one for each media server.

Hope this helps...

-Dave

I currently only have a combo master/media server (TLD 0). I'm setting up
two additional media servers (for the first time), this new media server,
'bob', will be its own robotic control host (TLD robot 1) with two of its
DLT drives directly attached to _another_ media server, 'bill' (also called
TLD robot 1, since robotic control is from bob). I've set up the robots and
drives using tpconfig on bob and bill, and added in TLD 1 into the master
server with tpconfig. I tried using the java GUI as the Media Manager admin
guide directs, but got frustrated with its slowness. My questions are these:

1) What more do I need to do on the master to recognize the drives/robotics
on bob and bill to a point I can add them in as new storage unit(s)? I
noticed that adding in bob, ie TLD(1), on the master via tpconfig added the
media server into its bp.conf, but I'm not clear about how to add bill. Do I
need to add in the drives for the media servers on the master via tpconfig?
If so, how?

2) Will I actually create two storage units in this scenerio? They're both
TLD(1), but on separate media servers.

Thanks,

Ryan
