Hello Jonas

That depends on whether you need to be able to actually access the data that's
still on the tape. Allowing overwrites or even erasing the tape and
relabelling is the easiest way but results in loss of the data on the tape.
You may be able to carefully use the Unix dd and mt commands to copy the data
into the new block record length but I wouldn't trust it since the tar would
also have done it's own blocking, dd and mt can probably fix the label but you
would probably have to dd to a tar to another tar to a dd in order to convert
the actual data (if it's multiplexed, this could be very difficult). At this
site, by the time I was brought in to take over their Netbackup setup, the tapes
in the old block format had basically expired so I just erased and relabelled.

hello!

Due to some reasons (no use mentioning the reasons now), we hade to increase the
buffer size a month ago.

when we are trying to reuse our tapes that used the old buffer size, the tape is
frozen and not usable. I get the following excerpts from the bptm log:

          10:23:24 [25072] <2> io_open: file
          /usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/tpreq/000006 successfully opened

contains ANSI-format data and cannot be used for backups

how do I solve it the easiest way, without getting inconsistency problems in
netbackup?

all servers *must* be on the same code level, ie. same
version *and* same patch level.

We have an environment with:

Master Server, Sun E5500, STK L700, Solaris 8, NBU 3.4
Media Server, Sun Ultra 10, STK 9714, Solaris 7, NBU 3.4
Media Server, Sun E5500, shares STK 9714, Solaris 2.6, NBU 3.4

We applied patch J0850645 to all servers yesterday with great
results. Backups for ALL 167 backup clients were successful when
I came in this morning. This is good news, because the email
going around was scaring me.

Hello,

I have Veritas NetBackup 3.4 that was running and
working fine on Solaris 8 with a Tape Library L9 (Tape
Drive DLT 8000). I rebooted the server for maintenance
purposes and now the backup software said that the
tape doesn't exist (the path devices) but I can see it
trough sgscan and I even do a device managment wizard
and the robot and the tape were recongnized.

If any of you have any ideas I appreciate that. In
this point I can reinstall the software but if for any
reason I need to reboot and afraid this is going to
happen again and by that time it is not going to be
posible reinstall.

Thanks,
Edelmira

PD Apologize for the english errors

Is this in a SAN? If so did you add a new node to the SAN?

Nope. The master server has attached a StorEdge L9
with only one tape drive dlt800.
