Bob,
Is the database edition (excluding all of the additional add-ons such as
bli, qio, etc.) the same as the Oracle Agent? I was thinking about testing
oracle backups, functionality, performance, manageability, etc for a client.
In this case they are thinking of just using RMAN to backup their Oracle DB.
Their DB is going to grow to eventually be around 700 GB. It is currently
around 200 GB. I know that RMAN allows block level incremental backups
where I believe Netbackup performs the block level backups at the file
system level, outside of the database. I think? I also assume that the
database edition like the Oracle agent interfaces with RMAN, or does DB
Edition not have to use RMAN?
DBAs: Preferences between using RMAN, RMAN interfaced with the NBU Oracle
agent, or using the Database Edition?
Thanks,
Dan

Incase no one got back to you.
NetBackup 3.4 Database Agent (Oracle) is or interface into Oracle's Rman to
do hot backups.
Database Edition 2.1.1 for Oracle is Volume Manager, File System, and QIO
plus other features designed to help Oracle run faster online. Plus the
addition of DBED and NBU plus Advanced BLI gives you a different way to
backup up Oracle at the Block Level.
I think that's enough acronyms for now, if you have any questions it's best
you contact your SE or Sales Rep to help with Licensing questions or to make
sure you have all the right parts to do as you want.
TTFN
Bob

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Whats the Difference?
Hey guys
I have a copy of Netbackup 3.4 Database Agents (Oracle) and a copy of
Database Edition 2.1.1 for Oracle. I am trying to figure out what the
difference is between these two products. Both seem to be able to perform
hot backups.
Please share your thoughts on this.
Thanks
