Hi,
Does anybody know how to get the volume databse in NetBackup to update as
soon as the tapes are entered into the libary?
The problem I am having is that every week I have to go into NetBackup and
update the inventory.
I don't mind doing this but when I am away it doesn't get done so I end up
using all my scratch tapes.
Is there a script about that can do this?

NetBackup to allow a robot with a media access port to be automatically =
emptied and inventoried into the NetBackup database.<BR><BR>This option =
is only valid for TLD robots that have a media access port that report =
unit attentions when they are opened/closed. <BR><BR>Adding the =
option<B> AUTO_UPDATE_ROBOT</B> to the vm.conf file located in the =
/usr/openv/volmgr/ directory on Unix and the ${INST_DIR}\volmgr =
directory on NT/W2K will cause the TLD robotic daemon to detect this =
unit attention.<BR><BR>When a unit attention is detected with this =
option, the media will be entered by the robot into the first available =
slot and the NetBackup volume database will be updated to reflect the =
new media. <BR><BR>The user may have to set up barcode rules to force =
the media to be the correct type. Barcode rules are covered in the =
<I><U>Media Manager System Administrators Guide</I></U>.<BR><BR>If =
barcode rules are not used, all media will be added using a default =
media type based on the type of drives configured in that robot on the =
local host where vmupdate runs, if any. Otherwise, media is added as =
DLT. <BR><BR>To add media, the robot should be idle, no other =
mounts, dismounts, inventories, injects or ejects should be performed =
while this operation occurs. If any of these operations are in =
progress, the unit attention may not be caught and the media access =
port will not be emptied. A workaround is to re-open/close the =
media access port. <BR><BR>The following log message can be found in =
the system log when this operation is in progress: =
<BR><BR>"TLD(%d) unit attention detected, checking media access =
port and updating inventory". <BR><BR>After adding this option to =
the vm.conf file all Media Manager daemons should be recycled. =
