Since Ayaz has already provided the "real" answer, I'd like to preach a
little. I don't want this to sound like I'm criticizing you -- I'm not. I
very much understand the position you're in, but I just can't hold this
back.  ;)

<steps up to soapbox>

I don't know exactly what "implemented" means to you, but what you're
describing is really scary, and has happened to me as well. I've seen
server's go production without a good backup method. Either it's a new
type of server (as in your case) and we have no idea how to back it up yet,
or it's just another server -- but I was never notified that it even
existed. "My mother did that to me once -- once." - Johnny Dangerously

Try to use this little mishap as a teaching opportunity to the rest of your
IT staff. Help them to understand that the development and TESTING of the
backup strategy of a new system is as much of a part of its development as
testing its new database. Explain to them the danger of going production
before you have a tested backup and recovery method. In your case,
hopefully you can read the release notes and you'll be set. However, what
you might not be able to do is test recoveries -- if the server's already
in production. And a backup that hasn't been tested with a full recovery
isn't a backup.

<steps down from soapbox>

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
