I've upgraded my NetBackup master/media server to 3.4 and I'm going to
upgrade all my NetWare boxen to 3.4 shortly. However, a new concern I
have is how OTM works. I have a heavily used NetWare mail server with
serveral 3-5 Gig. files on it which are 'open' during backups. As I
understand it, OTM makes a copy in cache of the open file and backs that
up. Am I right? That said, the default cache size, found below in the
NetWare client's bpcd log is probably not big enough:
======================================================================
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - OTM Enable Parameters
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF -
----------------------------------------------------------------------
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - CacheFileName: ''
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - SizeofCacheFileMB: 10
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - MaxSizeOfCacheFileMB: 50
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - QuiescentWait: 5
03/10/01 8:26:42 AM: [138]: INF - QuiescentTimeout: 60
03/10/01 8:27:08 AM: [138]: INF - OTM Mapping: BOB --> O_000_9956DB71
03/10/01 8:27:08 AM: [138]: INF - OTM Mapping: SYS --> O_000_FA2224E0
03/10/01 8:27:08 AM: [138]: INF - OTM Cache File: SYS:\SYSTEM\OTM01
03/10/01 8:27:08 AM: [138]: INF -
However, if I make the cache file bigger, there's no way I can make a 5
Gig cache file as I don't have enough disk. Am I right on this, or am I
way off? Which brings me to another question:
How do you change the OTM cache size on NetWare? There is NO
documentation on this although there is plenty on how to do it for NT
(which I've done). I assume the NT admin GUI would do this, but I
haven't tried it yet.
