[Veritas-bu] tape capacity reporting
2001-03-14 17:19:52
This happens regularly when we do a cold backup of Oracle Data files. Even
though the file is 10GB, 1-5GB of it is likely empty white space. This
compresses down to nothing through the DLT hardware compression. Netbackup
reports the amount of UNCOMPRESSED data stored on a particular tape. That's
the scoop.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] tape capacity reporting
I notice on occasion that we have dlt tapes showing a capacity of greater
than 70gb from NetBackup (Unix NetBackup, ver. 3.2 running with a 9740
robot). I understand how this can happen, but to see in excess of 100gb for
a full tape, I have to wonder! Can anyone share their theories with me?
Maybe I'm just lucky and don't know it!
Thx in advance
