Because NBU is a frequency based scheduler, I need to build an NT script that
will request a backup of a client using one schedule if it's the first Friday
of the month and another schedule if it's any other Friday. Since this will
technically be a User Requested backup (the script will be running on the
client that will be backed up) what special considerations have to be made on
the client? I've read in the book that there are two versions of the bpbackup
command. One is for a user requested backup and the other is for an immediate
manual backup. I believe I want to use the second form because I want to backup
the entire server and I want the NT client to think that the Master server is
really making the request. This would assume a root user or administrator user.
Sounds kind of hokie I know, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I have a need
to vary the retention periods for a particular client and keep one backup per
month for 6 months and the rest for 5 weeks. If someone has already done this
(or something similar) and can save me some steps, I'd appreciate it.
Environment:
Master Server: Sun E450 - (2) 400mhz CPUs - 1GB Memory / Solaris 2.6 / NBU
3.2GA / Sun L11000 Library
Media Servers: None
