What may be a lot easier is to install an Administrative client on your NT
desktop and manage everything from there.

I'll admit I never did this, but a coworker of mine said that in his
previous company they were able to push out software and make config
changes to NT clients with ActiveState's Perl for Win32.  He said they
didn't have to install Perl in all the machines, just a DLL.  Doing this
would require a high level of understanding of Perl however, and a
further learning curve for the Win32 specifics of it.  But the price is
right.
